In your opinion, which is the better Trilogy, Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?

Yes, it can be argued that LotR is supposed to be one big long movie since the book was supposed to be one big long book. Ignore that, it's 3 movies, so it's a trilogy for this exercise.

And for the Star Wars Trilogy, you can look at it as the original or the reworked Trilogy, whichever you thought was better, and pit it against LotR.

And yes, it can be argued that they aren't really the 'same' so can't be compared. For this exercise just choose the one you liked more than the other.

Just curious to see how this pans out.

Apples and Oranges man.

Personally I think the writing of JRR Tolkien is nearly impossible to beat, even by George Lucas' Star Wars.

Personally I think the Writing in the LOTR is superior. And the films are fucking fantastic.

But as for which one I personally enjoy more.... that would be Star Wars.... It's just so much fun too watch...especially now in high quality THX Mastered 5.1 DDEX form.

The ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy.

LOTR is good and all, but it starts to drag SERIOUS ass in the second and especially the third movies. If I were Peter Jackson I would have opted for a Roots type series for television to leave room for the whole story and make it berrible to watch.

I hate the fucking LotR *movie* trilogy. Full of comic-like moments, it's a joke of the original novel. Shame. :shame:

thats pretty stupid comparing the film to the book. The book is always better.

LOTR is obviously more epic, and higher quality. I give Peter Jackson more credit for his effort than to George Lucas for SW 4-6

but....

Frankly, SW 4-6 is just more entertaining to me. Seeing the "STAR WARS" in yellow letters upon the start of the movie always gives me a chill down my spine.

SO I vote Star Wars.

Back to the Future.

Star Wars is obviously a classic series, but over fan boyed, and at times over hearalded. Still very good of course.

LOTR is no where near classic, poor even.

So crap I COULDNT BARE to sit through another 3 hours (the last movie), so I didnt bother. Saw the previous two, thought at times it was ok, mostly crap.

Indiana Jones

Hell, I could also go with Evil Dead.

But out of the two we have to choose from, Star Wars wins. Now for those LOTR battle scenes...

I voted Star Wars because my long time fanboyism wouldn't let me click the other option. Let it be known here though, The LOTR Trilogy owns Star Wars for free.

Better story
Better moviemaking
Better acting
Better visuals

The only thing Star Wars may have on LOTR is a better score... and thats very iffy in my book too.

I'm now staying the hell out of this because it is bound to get really ugly.

ill take back to the future or indiana jones over both of those any day.

biff and mcfly > luke and frodo

between those 2 its hard to say. lotr dragged ass in many parts but i dont think ive actually sat through an entire original star wars movie since they bore me. they prolly the same to be but i voted lotr since its behind.

Star Wars is definitely the better of the two, IMO. It's kind of a shame, because LOTR could've been the better of the two (or at least equal) if it didn't have so much excess baggage to carry around and wasn't so drawn out. The scene at the end of Return of the King went on fucking forever .... Frodo and his buddy were staring at each other for so long that I was almost sure they would end up fucking. :oh_no:

LOTR is my pick. Yeah, it might of dragged on at times, but I still loved every minute of it. I'm not saying SW is bad, but the praise for it can be a bit much, not to mention the borderline obsessive fans who defend the movie at all costs.

In my opinion, LOTR is this generation's SW.

I would rather watch the original Star Wars trilogy. I think there's a lot of stuff going on in the LOTR movies which is only cool because of the existence of the books. Also, I didn't care for silly things like having Frodo hanging off the cliff at the end. That was uncalled for and not even believable. I think they're both excellent, though. I just have to nitpick here since you're asking me to pick from two great efforts in filmmaking.

Didn't you know they were adding that scene to the extended edition of RotK? The 40 extra minutes is scene by scene slow motion love making between Sam and Frodo, all the while both are screaming at the top of their lungs 'we did it for you Galfordo!'

I actually voted LotR. SW are overly lauded when they have merely a lackluster story/plot. Praise Jesus Lucas didn't pen the dialog for all of the originals.

I mean, fuck me, Eps 2 dialog is such a sad sad sad affair (the 'I can't breath without you' is one line that sticks out in my mind as total crap), even my left testicle exploding after being squeezed in a vice then read back in reverse would be better than that crap. Thankfully he had help on all but the original movie out of the 3. He should seriously think about getting a real writer for III.

Of course, all of the above isn't why I picked LotR. LotR has wonderful cinematography, superbly acted, beautiful scenery, a plot that makes more sense to me and a better feel over all.

I read and loved LotR when I was in the fifth grade. Over the following couple years, I must have read the series 3 or 4 times. The first movie had a couple great moments that were just like the book. Also, Boromir was great, I thought...brought a little depth to the role of traitor. Christopher Lee was good. Other than those few select moments, the movie version bored the living shit out of me, and I didn't like the few changes I noticed even after not having read it for 20 or so years. It being beautifully shot wasn't enough to hold my interest. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

The guy who played Frodo particularly anoyed me. He had only two facial expressions in the entire movie. #1) :about to cry #2) : just finished crying... at which point he would revert to expression #1.

When my girlfriend said she wanted to see Two Towers, I said "have fun."

The original Star Wars is not (directly) an inferior version of anything; it started as a movie. So it wins.
