Hahaha, this is interesting. I went to 2 Libraries today, and both were IP banned!

Hey people.

So I went to a random Public Library today, as I needed to print out a Manual for a new Stove we bought, and while I was downloading the PDF file to the Library Computer, I decided to open a new browser and check out neo-geo.com

Well, when I clicked on Forums, it said that the IP was banned and I could not enter! :loco: I guess somebody logged in here and got himself banned!

Then, I found out that the printer was broken, so I couldn't even damn well print out the manual. :(

Later in the day, on my way home I saw another Public library and decided to quickly print it there. Again, I decided to look at NG, and OMG IT TOO WAS IP BANNED!

What the hell, 2 Public Libraries in Toronto have been banned because of someone? :spock:

Well, to me this was very interesting...

Does Neo-Geo mean something immoral and sexually repulsive in French?

 I don't mean that the Library computer itself banned me from viewing the forums, as a sort of filter, I'm saying that Neo-geo.com Banned the Library's IP, because a user who used those library's Computers got banned, and when the User was banned, so was the whole library with it...

Wow. What were the odds of that. Sucks you couldn't get in the site though.

My guess is SnkChef had a hand in getting the IP at the 2 public libraries banned.

The sad thing is that odds are if I were to go to a 3rd Library, that IP would be banned too.

I wonder how many libraries have been banned in Toronto thus far...

I don't know a whole lot about IPs, so I'm probably wrong, but is it possible that all the Toronto public libraries use the same IP? Or at least the same base IP?

well, at least one Gulf state (UAE) has banned us, so I guess we may be getting screened by other public sources.

I bet that's what happened - seems more probable than someone running from library to library.

No, I think that every Modem has a different IP, so every library has to have a different Modem to go online...

If I feel the need to go to another Library, I'll check that out too. :)

Well, I think most public and government facilities run on a network that has a certain range of IP's.
It's possible that the entire range got banned here.

I think this happens when very large ranges of IPs are banned including the cloaked browsing services

as an example, if you remember 3-4 months ago whole ranges of french IP have been banned cause the french morons from NGF (Duck King, cyril, Stifu/Inazuma, Sets....)decided to "invade" the site
I wouldn't be surprised if some french library or other public places have been included in L'Squish

It's probably an extreme measure by the admins when some very annoying fuck keep making fake accounts and spamming the site
that said I might be completely wrong cause generally canadians are very cool. I can't remember of anyone acting so foolish to get mods/admins pissed off that much

N-G is banned at my school too for "games." So is KLOV though and that pisses me off because it has a lot of good tech info. GameSX is also banned and I'm mad for the same reason (moreso as the site is all tech). SRK and S-C aren't banned though.

The question I have is, is "neo-geo.com" banned, or "neo-geo.com/forums" banned?

Is the whole Website banned, or only the message boards?

Every computer on the internet has a different IP address.

It is possible to have several computers accessing the net via one IP using NAT (Network Address Translation). This is used generally in connecting a network to the internet. I doubt several libraries at different locations would be using this method.

Perhaps all the libraries are accesssing the internet via the same proxy server? That would make them look the same to neo-geo.com. It is likely that the libraries are going via a proxy server as this would allow them to block certain sites at one point.

It could also be the case that an entire IP range was banned at ng.com when trying to ban a troublesome user :). In which case, the libraries are on different IP addresses but match a pattern. For example 192.168.0.* (please note the 192.168.0.* range is for private networks only, it is not used on the internet), this would ecompass 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255. You may have done this when banning a user whos ISP gives out IPs dynamically rather than static. If this is the case, it could be most public libraries hehe.

The whole friggin site. Even Neostore.

We have the WebSense filter. It used to be easy to get around, but almost nothing works now (substituting neostore.com with it's IP works though but I dunno for how long).

I read about a workaround with akamaitech.net's weird servers but I can't get it working :(.

And all the proxies I find already configured on the computers there (someone would put a proxy connection up, log out and it'd still be there) are too f'kn slow (5 kbps is the fastest I've seen, I'd rather browse filtered-but-fast).

Any WebSense users know how to get around?
