I'll wait and see before I say anything.
But $350 for PSP is horrible.
We'll see,
besides when does both systems come out?
I hope the big N still does well.

This isn't surprising to me at all, I don't really think SONY will be able to take over the "Portable" game market, that's been Nintendo's turf for too long, and the fact that they never can set a price point on it is just bad. People today want something for nothing {well actually that's always been the case} and if Nintendo can produce a better product and get the right people onboard 3rd Party wise, the PSP will simply be "the other woman" that gamers keep around for special events.

Typical Sony trying to trade off of the past glory of the Playstations hayday.
They've managed it so far, but I really doubt that the PSP will topple Ninty from the handheld market when they are asking twice the price of the DS.
Sony would have been better off selling it as a loss leader to break Nintendo's monopoly by providing a cheaper more powerful alternative to the DS from the start.
PSP=Lynx 3

As a particularly 'gotta have it' consumer, who almost always buys on the day of release......
I'll be waiting till the price goes down (significantly) before I add a PSP to my collection.

I knew the psp was gonna suck. The only reason sony leads the console market is because you have to buy 20 different systems because their a p.o.s. Nintendo rules :buttrock: I have to go now Donkey Konga is calling me :D

It does seem odd that Sony has yet to annouce any pricing information on their unit or even battery life for that matter. For a system that is scheduled to be released within the next 3 to 6 months, this information should have already been announced. Usually, it's typical of Sony to announce a bevy of features for their product to create hype. Once they have consumers hooked, Sony is known to put out an announcement right brefore release and inform consumers that certain features are cut for what not reasons.

Sounds scary to me

Nintendo's stock rose 2.1% .... eh, that's a good day, but most people wouldn't call that "shooting up". People might be jumping to conclusions a little bit. Anyway, I hope Nintendo does well - they're the only hardware manufacturer left that really understands how to make real quality games.

Watch it all be a scam and the PSP is released at $200.

Bulid people up for a price and then blind side them.

While Sony Computer Entertainment had more than 20 PSP games at the show, many of them were still in the early stages of development. And although analysts did not seem to have any issues with the hardware itself, they questioned whether Sony could indeed release the PSP by the end of the year with a solid third-party game lineup. Furthermore, questions regarding the PSP's battery life and price went unanswered at TGS.

Exactly...what the hell was Sony thinking...you'd have thought they'd give SOME details...but nope... :oh_no:

If they release for that price they'll kill the DS. Of course the $350 price tag sounds much more believable.

Of course I could see them selling at a huge loss just to kill Nintendo. Think long term strategy. If they can ensure that Nintendo is in 3rd place in the next round of big consoles and destroy their portable revenue, they could easily wipe them out from the next-next generation.

let me remind you that handheld gaming is ridiculous. You know you only play these things on the toilet and at home.

Yep, and one shit took me so long {3 1/2 hours} that I beat Rivercity Ransom EX too. And there's nothing like stabbing commies in "Rush N' Attack" when I'm on the pot either.

and quality hardware, something Sony used to do many years ago. Even if they did sell it at 200 bucks, they'd probably charge 100 bucks for a battery pack.

Haha, so funny. Those stock possibilities are pure speculation.

The only reason Nintendo has owned the handheld market is because they didn't have jack shit for competition. Back in the day it was GameGear versus Gameboy. The classic Genesis versus SNES argument. Both companies had great third party and it was a fair fight. In this day and age Nintendo has lost touch with the industry and they lie dormant in a fetal position when it comes to knowing how to run a business. Sony versus Nintendo? That's a competition Nintendo has already joyfully lost. Nintendo only wants to make games, they, for the most part, gladly refuse quality third party support because making money is something they don't like to do. Good games will come out on the PSP, the DS will get crappy first party 64-bit kiddy crap.

I really do hope that most of you will be one sided and only purchase a DS. You can play your Mario 64 all you like while I'm sitting back and playing Vampire Chronicle and future KOF games online with my PSP. Later suckas.

Don't get me wrong, I love Shigeru Miyamoto for all the great games he has brought to my childhood. However, Believe me this my friends, If I had the choice I would pick him off in a heart beat with a corporate sniper rifle. In the end Nintendo will fall and Sony will gain their IPs, just like MegaMan defeating a lowly boss. Peace-

they wouldn't kill Nintendo @ that price.

Forget ALL the other reasons for or against buying the DS or PSP.....

We all know how reliable the Ps2 is.... what about that translating into a handheld that gets bumped.... falls on the floor (yes it happens).... and abused at times.... I doubt the Sony could take it.

REGARDLESS.... sony has had PSX/PS2 troubles of units JUST FROM NORMAL USE.... I mean its like 1 in every 3 - 6 Sony's that see the repair shop in 1-2 years... come on.

They better translate something good into that handheld.... because moving parts in a handheld can be a disaster.

Resoglas.... no offense here (all due respect to you)... but please don't go into the Nintendo Kiddy argument.... The N64 had a ton of non-kiddy titles as well... I can list 40-50 off the bat. Thats just not a valid argument.

"quality third party support"
thats almost contradictory..... Nintendo is the worlds #2 software producer next to EA.... and the only reason EA is ahead is because they have bought out so many game studios.

I am not saying Nintendo is the only company to make good games.... I know there are companies that make good games. But recently... even Squeenix admitted that they made a mistake seperating from Nintendo... they are going to start doing developments for Nintendo again.

Nintendo has not rejected quality 3rd party support. Either developers left... or they couldn't make good games. IMO, some developers are scared to compete with Nintendo's games as they feel their titles will be over shadowed.... this is not ALWAYS the case... but when Every Nintendo title drops 1 million sold (at least 500K on the lowest title I believe).... and the pokemons dropping 3-4 mil sold on launch day.... its hard to compete with that.

I think the DS Vs the PSP is going to be a fight... but honestly.... I do see Nintendo owning this one. They are tried and true... and they are DEFINITELY not out of touch with the market. ..... IF Nintendo was out of touch... they wouldn't have sold more GBA's than Ps2's (in some estimates).
Nintendo knows what they are doing. They are very profitable.... and they will not take on ventures that do not make them money... examples: online service, Rareware, and a few other studios.

Name 50 good ones.

With only a very few exceptions, any good game N64 had, there was a game a hundred times better in the same genre on Saturn or PS. 2D fighting, 3D fighting, racing, RPG, adventure, survival horror, gun game...anything really. Besides Mario, Zelda, and (if you like FPS) Goldeneye, name any game in any category...there was a better one on PS. ResOglas' point (which I have to agree with) is that Nintendo was brilliant in the SNES days, had about every game worth playing on it; but they seriously lost touch durring the N64 days. And at least if a PS game sucked, it would only cost you $20-$30. I have both PS and N64 from their launches, and to this day, I only have maybe 6 or 7 N64 games. Their games might not have been all aimed at kiddies, but they sure the hell weren't aimed at me, either. I still play my SNES a LOT more than my N64.

I'm a fan of games, not hardware. I'm a huge player of GBA because of their great library (with the backwards compatability). If DS has better games than PSP, I'll choose DS over PSP. So far, neither sounds too mind-blowing, but PSP has a few games I'm interested in. When I actually see some pictures or video of DS Castlevania, I will re-assess the situation.

I have had the good fortune of actually playing the PSP and the DS for extended periods of time, and the DS is a superior ergonomically. Its no where near the power of the PSP in terms of graphics and sound, but the DS is a nice, comfortable, little hand held, with decent graphics, and keeps the play screen nice and uncluttered from menus by using the bottom screen or vice versa. Nice little system, and affordable :)

I heard somewhere (gamefaqs) that Princess Crown, that old Saturn game is gonna be putting out a new title on the PSP?

Does this sound like Bullshit?

I think so.
