$350 is the leaked price.

Link 2

Still trying to find the official source for this.

If that's the market price, I think they're going to fail. The PSP is amazing in what it can deliver graphically especially over the DS, but that's just way too much cash.

If Sony can pull this off into a successful product it'd be an incredible push. Personally I want a PSP more than a DS, but I ain't buying a PSP untill the price comes down to less than $150, and even then it'll be iffy. Nothing shown so far has been so compelling to be worth $350.

I was affraid of this, there is NO way anyone would pay that much for it. Sony Marketed it as a "Does everything system" instead of a Videogame system that does some other things you might or might not like.

So to them its justified to sell it at that price...yeah...good job

Man o' man .... this is going to be a really tough proposition - even for the almighty Sony.

I'll save my $350. I don't play on the road anyway, so it's not like I was in the market for it anyway.

Not trying to be a fanboy. I mean this is a screenshot from the TGS '04 thread, for a FPS game on PSP:

That's way ahead of what the DS can do.

Of course PSP costs $350 freakin dollars, and that ain't worth it. Not for a portable system anyway.

I wonder though, with what it can throw out there, would it be enough to push it out and over the edge? If Sony starts seeing that it's going to loose the portable war, will they slash prices incredibly?

This will make things very interesting.

Jesus christ, 350 $$. That's insane.

It is SUCH a nice system though. This is going to be a real dilema. I think the price is going to put off a lot of gamers. I hope this is just a rumor and not fact. I could see paying $200, but nothing over that for a portable system.

$350.00 pass no thanks that all most cost, as much as a Aes cartridge. :shame:

LOL, and on a neo geo board no less.

$300 - $350 was exactly what i was expecting. However, I want a final number on battery life (don't want less than 5 hours). I'm on the PSP like white on rice. Widescreen Dalkstalkers and Advent children has me sold. N's DS puts me to sleep.

Since you haven't had both in your hands, you can't say that for certain.

The image you posted looks better than what I've seen on the DS, but that doesn't always mean anything, I mean fuck, look at some of the prerelease pics for games that showed up in the beginning of the N64 for perfect examples of screens looking better than the actual games.

350$ is too high. But I think i'll probably pick one up as well.

This has to do with Price Elasticity of Demand in relation to the handheld market, Sony Will keep the price high for a few months so the early adopters get the system at the inflated prices. And then later on drop the price to and equilibrium price somewhere the masses will pay for. ( Prices on Videogame Consoles always drop from the begininning highest price)

It's just simple economics, and it means less sales at first, but huge profits in the long run.

It will be interesting on how it competes with the DS, but even at this price that is more than 2x the DS's price, the DS could sell 1,000 units and the PSP could sell 1/2 that 500, and still make more money in the end.

Sony is only interested in profits. :crying:

I've heard this price is a hoax that originated on the Penny Arcade forums. Apparently someone there was claiming that Gamespot leaked the price, but as far as I can tell this has not happened. No one knows for sure yet.

At that price I dont think I would pick it up right away. I would have to wait and see what games are out for it.
Too bad for Sony because I will be picking up the DS when its released simply because of the $150.00 price point. And well also for metroid and mario :multi_co:

OMG 1287323 BIT GRAPHICS!

Dude, since when did visuals make a game?

The DS is powerful enough to handle my favorite games and has backward compatability with GBA games.

Go to Nintendo.com and look at the demos.

Its going to be a FUN system.

I can get eye candy anywhere.

Mine is paid for already @ EB and I'm actually excited about it.

I love Nintendo, I won't deny that.

Castlevania will be the only reason I get a PSP.

This is far more importatnt that price. Last shown they said battery life was about 2 hours for games, that's miserable and not even worth buying the thing.

I MAY consider it after a price drop (in years probably) if the battery life's more than 5 hours. Seems like a longshot at this point.

Still getting DS, 100%.

I love this no bullshit itemization comparison:

Playstation Portable
Hardware: $349.99
1 Game: $39.99 (at a minimum)
Memory Stick: $29.99 (at a minimum)
Total: $419.97

Nintendo DS
Hardware: $149.99
1 Game: $39.99 (at a minimum)
Postage and Packing (since you bought it online): $6.00
Total: $195.98

Sony can suck big fat floppy donkey dick.
