I was at the arcade today, and where KOF 03 is, it said KOF 2004 PLUS...

the start up screen was the same as kof 03, yet when it showed where it usually said "King of Fighters 2003" it said "King of Fighters 2004" and had a flashing PLUS below it with some funny chinese writing.

it was the exact same as KOF 03, yet the gameplay is about 1.5x faster than before and EVERY CHARACTER IN THE GAME is selectable.

Mukai, Chizuru kagura, Maki kagura (dont ask me why, but they are 2 seperate characters), Adel Bernstein, Kusanagi.....

all readily selectable.

is this some kind of pirate game? whats the deal?

It's a hack. There are quite a few other "PLUS" hacks out there. Only three I think of are SVCPlus, and one instance of reading of a KOF99 Plus.

What the Plus hack normally entales is the playing of mid-bosses and bosses through hackery and bypassing of codes or time releases in the cart, or just anything that the aforementioned hacker felt would make the game "cooler."

Not quite sure what makes a Plus hack a Plus version. I'm guessing just a redone P1, but I could be wrong there too. (Blind guesses seem to be my lot in life.)

But...seeing what you've said about the chinese writing and the "04" listing, I think it's safe to say that the game you saw was less than legit.

the game is a bootleg. the arcade i went to (University Mall) has the same thing, except it has the word HERO flashing instead and the title logo has the word EX in it. (not to be confused with the Gameboy Advance game KoF EX)

I think majority of arcades here in the Philippines had that so called KOF 2004 PLUS. :very_ang:

WTF dude ... not even arcade ops care enough to stay away from carts that are such obvious hacks.

If Strikers 1945 Plus is a hack then I must be an amoeba... I did kinda find it similar to Sonic Wings though.

the reason why it says kof 04 plus instead of 03 is because in that version all of the hidden characters such as the final boss are unlocked. Trust me. I've seen it in Mexico. It was wierd for me too.
