I usually go w/ teh bootlegs but there was no eb boot around. I know the CB full set and movie is 25. From my experience I usually buy FX there work is perfect. You can't tell the diff in video or sound

You are a retard if you think there is no quality difference between bootlegs and the legit releases. Bootleggers care about one thing and one thing only, money. The more episodes they can cram on a disc, the less overhead they have, which means higher compression.

Perfect example. I've seen the Mao Dante/Demon Lord Dante bootleg. 3 discs for 13 episodes. There is so much compression blocking it's not even funny. They are on dual layer discs and they can hold 6 damn near perfect quality episodes, going off R2 legit DVD episode counts. For some reason, even though the quality would be better at a higher bit rate and fit on a dual layer DVD, they knock the original's bit rate in half or less. It plays out to going as low as 3 mbit per second to a 'high' of 6 mbit per second. I'm sorry but 6 mbit per second in high action scenes looks like complete ass.

If you are content with stealing from the original creators and getting inferior knock offs, you are more than welcome to them. Personally I'd rather you just download fansubs. They are free and some crap ass bootlegger isn't getting money.

BTW, good score on the EB set off eBay, regardless of how much I dislike your bootleg buying practices.

I buy both orignal and boot, 90% of mine are original since I just started going w/ boots so get of your high horse. If I see a boot I will buy, big deal. I mostly go boot if I can't find original. Case in point I bought Rurouni Kenshin full set because at the time not all the episodes were out. Same thing with Pretear if I can buy them early great if not I buy original. I was watching the Dante boots because the US releases are censored, as are the releases everywhere outside of Japan. I borrowed the boots, watched them and continue to buy the US release, even though I've seen the series. I like the series, but nowhere near enough to pay R2 prices to see it uncensored. My Dante originals don't have any of the compression issues seen on the boots.

I've also sampled boots when a friend of mine bought some because he didn't know better. The quality is sub par/barely average. I saw a Fist of the North Star boot this way and if you want crap quality, pick that one up as well.

Compare the pic quality of any of your boots to the original source, Japanese R2s unless they have the English dubs on them, then they are stolen from the R1 releases. As I've stated, they drop the bit rate to accomodate more episodes a disc and the compression problems are more than evident if you are watching with a connection better than composite or RF.

If you can't wait for a proper release, just download fansubs. Pick up a DVD burner and reauthor the video clips as DVD video. You now have a totally free release, minus the cost of the DVD-R and can watch it on your TV. This can help tide you over until it sees a legit release.

I have a problem with bootleggers because this is one of the few hobbies I enjoy. I doubt you would like to see your work stolen, or people take something you've worked on and make a profit on it while you don't see shit. That's what bootleggers do.

Actually, your Pretear may be a legit Singapore release. If it's released by Odex Private Ltd, it's legit. They also put out a Boys Be and Vandread set that can be found (well, Vandread can be found, Boys Be isn't so easy to find anymore) eBay and elsewhere. I believe the bootleg copies of Boys Be were stolen from Odex's version of the DVD.

You can do as you please, it's your money, but I can't just sit on my hands and say nothing when somebody does something I hate. It's human nature.

And I'm not trying to start a flame war. Sorry for calling you retarded. I get pissed when people bootleg Anime.

It's one thing to be a bastard and never buy anything legit. I can almost look the other way when people download something for free... But it's another to actually knowingly support bootleggers with your money. Even buying this stuff secondhand is deplorable. You're creating a market for it and making the bootlegs seem more valuable. The more help you give to these people, the less the real creators get whether you're buying originals or not. Lots of people on this board have had way too many experiences with the kind of scum who bootleg video games. I'm sure it's about as bad in the anime world. A bunch of greedy scamming pricks. Is anime that important to you that you go so far as to support people who make their living stealing? Give it a fucking rest and get a grip on reality. Anime is not that important that you need to help these fucks earn a living. Maybe you should donate every dollar you were going to spend on bootlegs to charity or something.

And anyway, if you are listening to the english track, thats even more reason to buy the legit R1's, seeings as its the american compaies that made the damn things in the first place.

So you aren't paying the animators, the company that releases it, the Japanese dub company, the Japanese voice actors, the US company that licenses it, the company who dubs it or the English speakers who dub it? So uhm, why should they even bother doing an English dub in the first place? Again, how would you like to to something and not get paid, or do it and have other people make money on your work while you don't see a dime of those sales?

Let's say we force you to go to work. Oh, you want to get paid? Too bad, we'll see you tomorrow though! And before you say 'then I won't come back,' if the people involved had the same attitude about the job as you do, then we wouldn't see ANY Anime. And buying bootlegs with English dubs will drop the bit rate even lower since they have to make room for the English and the Japanese audio on it.
