Interesting thing about the N-Gage and the return of an old tradition

I saw an EB flyer today that had a section devoted to the N-Gage. And truthfully, as fashionable as it's become to diss the N-Gage, I saw something interesting.

They mentioned that with the N-Gage QD, you got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for free. How long has it been since companies actually packed games (outside of the miscellaneous demo disc) with their systems?

Not that long, since Nintendo is packing Metroid Prime in their new bundle. The analogy is not flawed because N-Gage did not have a packin when originally released, similar to every other system out there. Only with the current system do they package a game, just like the Gamecube.

MS did this with the Xbox several times. First, they packed-in a Jet Set Radio Future/Sega GT 2002 combo disc (I have one of those which I picked up used), then they had a Star Wars/Tetris Worlds combo pack. Obviously, Halo was bundled with the Halo Edition Xbox.

And Sony did this several times, packing in GT3, then ATV Offroad Fury 2 with the PS2.

The Xbox has always been packed with two games for some time now(dunno if they still do it).

Best "Pack In" game of all time was the day I opened up my NES in the fall of '85 and got Super Mario Bros. Played the shit out of that game too. Back when Mario was a freckin commie plumber.

P.S. You can also get your fudge packed for free, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bargain. N-Gage is still a royal POS, sorry guys.

I stand corrected. Though one thing I will say for the N-Gage (other than what I mentioned before): It could very well be the only portable in existence today that could effectively emulate the Intellivision.

Stupidest post ever. Every goddamn system had a pack in game at some pont. PS2 had ATV offroad fury, XBOX had Tetris combo and Sega GT combo, the GC had Zelda and now Metroid.

Older ones had them too. Nes, Neo, Saturn ......

Worst: Keith Courage, TG16

Ack! Keith Courage was a great game! Remarkably deep with loads of replay value, unlike the shallow port of Altered Beast that came with my Genesis! :envy:

Very few consoles I've bought came with a packed-in game, the latest one being Xbox...

From what I remember:

Megadrive: Sonic
MegaCD: Road Avenger
Xbox: Project Gotham Racing

Altered Beast is a shallow arcade game anyway, and the port was okay... Yah, it is definitely a weak pack-in.

Best? How about California Games for Atari Lynx? Or Tetris for Gameboy? Those 2 I played so much I didn't buy another game for a long time. Let's not forget Alex Kidd in the Miracle World (SMS) and Super Mario Bros. (NES).
