amazing multiplayer, super deep and just plain fun.

very cerebral with gameplay like magic, armored core and psychic force mixed together.

pretty cool 1p too.

cant recommend highly enough!

I have no idea why Microsoft thinks this game wont sell in America.

Just started playing Phantom Dust and all I can say is WOW!

Im not exactly sure how the game play mechanics work, but from what I've played so far, the game rocks.

The kicker is that the whole game is in English already.

Does anyone know if the missions get a bit more involving once you get deeper in the game? I've only done a few missions and they seem real short.

Anyway, good game!

How does the game play offline? I still don't have Live, but I've been thinking of picking up Phantom Dust. Is it worth it, or is this really designed strictly for Live?

Could either of you describe the game mechanics a bit more? I've read a few articles on the game, but I'm still having a tough time picturing what the play is actually like.

Phantom dust was one of the reason why I bought a box. I saw the previews earlier this year, and combined with halo 2, I said, "ok. it's time I broke down and bought one of these things". Fuck M$ for deciding to not bring it over. Although I'm more than happy with my XB purchase anyways. The system was more than worth it for kotor alone.

ok the missions so far (ive played over 20) just seem like arena fights with some story added. story is quite interesting but the missions are like something youd get in unreal tournament mission mode or something.

in between missions you run around inside the "world" and talk to ppl, buy stuff etc.

system is you have the 4 buttons and you pick up one of the 300 magic powers and assign it to one of the 4 face buttons. there are attacks, defensive skills, jumps, dashs, healing, stealing, etc. its incredibly deep becoz some attacks are one off, long range only, straight shooting, use your energy to use it, steal the opponents attack if you block with it, etc.

you lock on like zelda and run around each other using shields to defend, leeching powers to steal energy and the environment to cause extra damage or as cover.

when you get further into the game you unlock "arsenals" you can then buy skills and put them in your arsenal (arsenals have limits like only abilities from 2 "schools" and the like. you then take the arsenal into battle and thats what appears in the arena (rather than randomly).

the game can be played split screen, link or live. the fun is playing with a friend, mastering use of all the skills, building your own arsenal and the intricate mechanics (the dynamics of jumping which can be used to dodge, landing from a great height which leaves you stunned for a half a second and hence open to attack, attacking from the air which makes aiming easier and gives you some float when you attack., etc).

the 1p game is quite fun but not the reason you should be getting this...

Mine is on the way, but I have to admit that I might not dig it. I mostly am interested in the game because it was created by the man that gave us the Panzer Dragoon games: His style is all over it.

I shall see.

But if I import it will I get the online play?

(I'm guessing no, which just about makes the game worthless to me. I wish I had never heard of it, since I was looking forward to this game at one point in time.)

doubt you could connect in the USA to those servers, plus you would probably need a japanese xbox live account.

I just preordered it from NCS (damn state tax screwed me out of 6 bucks :( ). I figured I would give it shot even though I dont have broadband. It got like a 34/40 from famitsu I think. And if I dont like it I may just sell it.
Do you know if there are any other xbox games worth importing? The only thing I saw on NCS were lame date/rpg games and the normal stuff you can get here.

Aside from a bunch of date-sims/anime-related ADV games (Aoi Namida, Galaxy Angel, etc), and now Phantom Dust, there really isn't anything that hasn't already been released in the US. Otogi 2 should be out soon in the US.

Magatama is the only high-ish profile game that hasn't seen a port, but it's not particularly fun or interesting (aside from maybe 2 hours of play, it's been collecting dust on my shelf since release). Really not worth buying.

Only other worthwhile games out there that I can think of would be Shikigami no Shiro Evolution and Shikigami no Shiro II. If you can read Japanese, I had a fun time with Shin Megami Tensei 9 as well.

Psyvariar 2: Extend Edition is supposedly out in a month or so. On the whole, all the best Box games have seen release in the US thus far.
