Katamari Damacy (If you don't own this game, you suck)

Came home for the weekend, walked into EB, ask my buddy if they have that new Megami Tensei game yet (when *does* that come out?), and he's like "no, but we have Katamari Damacy! You roll shit over! You have to buy it!".

I said OK.

I wasn't high or drunk or anything, so I'm still not sure why that was a good enough sales pitch to make me throw 20 bucks at him, but whatever.

This game is brilliant!

You have a ball. You roll stuff over and it sticks to your ball. The bigger it gets, the bigger the stuff you can roll over. That's... basically it.

It's simple and it's fun. You scramble to roll over, like, thumbtacks and rice balls until you're big enough to plow through a roadblock (maybe an eraser!), rinse, and repeat. Watch each level seemlessly get bigger and bigger in scale. Meet your goal within the time limit and move on. Get really into it and go for a perfect score.

The style is completely off the wall, and the music ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

No buttons to press (just the analogue sticks), nothing complicated - it's easy to learn and fun for anybody to play. If you're burnt out on games, go have some fun with this.

PS2 by the way.

Sounds just weird/niche enough that I'd want to play it. Too bad I already sold my PS2 for the third time. Oh well. Glad to hear off-the-wall games are still being sold in the domestic market.

Mission accomplished. I know 95% of the people here don't even *think* about playing games. ;)
