I want to buy an MP3 player. The tech specs say that its USB 2.0. I only have USB 1.0. Will I be able to use the player? I've been told that I will, but transfer will be slower. I'm not 100% sure on this info. Can anybody steer me in the right direction?
Thanx.

It depends. Typically the software when installing will verify the speed of the ports. If you are running USB 1.X, A usb add-in card is very cheap. Maybe around 10-20 dollars to upgrade. I would if you intend on getting one.

USB 2.0 stuff works on USB 1.0, but only slower (since 2.0 is new and such).

I reccomend you upgrade to 2.0. I bought a pci card with 4 hubs recently, its a cinch to install, and if you have service pack 2, it should install the drivers automatically. (I hate installing third party usb drivers)

The card should run you less then 25 for a four hub pci.

I also recommend getting a 2.0 pci card if you have an open slot. The difference in transfer speeds is phenominal.
