Im sure this question has been asked before but im thinking of geting one of these consoles.Which should i get? :help:

seriously get an xbox. im not going to go into the whole quality thing (even though my ps2 is a piece of shit) but there are so many cooler games on the box. not to mention LIVE! and the rom factor (which would be worth the price alone).

i dont have one but my uncle does. :crying:

Like Japanese Styled RPG's? Get a PS2.

Like just about everything else and value online play? Get an XBox.

Want to be really smart? Buy both, it's worth it.

On line play is pointless for me as I live in the sticks and have really bad conection speed. So that considered witch is the better machine? As im in the UK what mods need to be done so i can play inports i dont like the look of that ps2 disc switch thing.

You can do way more with a modded XBox than you can with a modded PS2. ROMZ and stuff make a modded XBox very much worth owning. It's also super easy to copy games with a modded XBox and a good hard drive installed.

PS2 has an incredible library of games though, but only a few really big titles aren't coming out for XBox anyway. If you really like Japanese RPG's then there's no question you want the PS2.

But more likely you're probably gonna want an XBox.

You should definitely get a PS2. It owns everything for Japanese style RPG's and shoot'em ups.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Both have great games coming out this Fall. I would get them both. Get the best out of both worlds.

I would buy both if i had the money.but my girlfriends having a baby in 8 weeks :eek: so cash is a bit tight and as the price for a new system has droped to £99 i thought id pic one up second hand cheap .

only reason to get a ps2 is if you enjoy NEXT GEN rpgs. but seriously if you want rpgs get a SNES or genesis or if you have a PSone thats enough.

modded xbox has an infinite rpg potential with the roms, so it blows out the ps2 even in that category imho.

ps2 has a much larger library, but its mostly shit i think. if you like playing with other people, especially with friends on the same system, xbox is where its at. if you dont know anyone serious about gaming then live will satisfy.

years down the line the ps2 will prolly be remembered as an able system but it will also be lumped alongside the psone as just an accesible main stream gaming experience. xbox, on the other hand, will prolly be recognized as one of the greatest gaming consoles ever and yes, this is largely due to its online capabilities and ROMMMMMMMMMZZZz.

the box is aging like a fine wine. ps2 struck it big then just went stagnant.

How easy is it to put a new hard drive in an Xbox.I have seen Xboxes with 120gb hard drives on ebay going for around £250 seems a bit too much to me?

I personally like the PS2 library of games. My PS2 was a piece of $%#@....it slowly died an agonizing death by refusing to read on type of disk than another. Hardware wise the PS2 is a cheaply constructed piece of crap.....so yeah get an Xbox.

If you have a HDTV and great sound system, definitely get the Xbox b/c of the higher res + 5.1 digital surround sound. I know this seems superfluous but consider that a vast majority of the games are ported to both system and the xbox usually get the better treatment.

Also look at each system's exclusive games and see which one you want to play more. You will never play Gradius V or Rez on the Xbox, so if you want to play those, PS2 is a must.

Get a modded PS2.

Aside from online-play and tEh rommmmzzz,X-Box is pretty much mEh,since most of its titles are either available on PS2 or are inferior ports of PC games,anyway.

Trust me,I own both,and I must say,I enjoy the PS2 much more.

There's no easy answer here. It really depends on what type of games you like. Personally, the only reason I have a PS2 is for a few good fighters and a few nice shmups (I'm not really a huge RPG fan).

The big advantage that the xbox has is that whenever a multi-platform game comes out, you know it'll be better on t3h bawkz. Oh, and don't underestimate the power of t3h raWmZ ... ;)

If your going second hand be careful... I have both a 1st generation ps2 and 1st generation xbox and both are having disc read problems. The ps2 just started, the xbox also started about 2 months ago I think that both systems are cheaply made crap. There is no reason for these errors to occur on my xbox it has mainly been sitting in my closet collecting dust due to the suckatude of games up until recently(I even considered selling it).

Another point is that both the regular "side of beef" controller and the type-s contoller suck, but you could always get a ps2->xbox converter.

IMO the gamecube is the best console. Very highly underated and with a ton of killer 1st party games. Get one now and you can be intime for the US release of Donkey Konga!

the PS2 is a must. it has more original exclusive games, but you won't hear about 90% of them (and no, it's not only about Japanese themed RPGs) . just to mention few:

Contra
Mega Man collection (on GC as well)
Ico
Gradius V
Viewtiful Joe (On GC as well)
Virtua Fighter 4 / Tekken series


not to mention adventure games like Castlevania, Devil May Cry, Shinobi ..... etc.

that of course excludes the RPGs (Suikoden, Dragon Quest VIII) and the games that are already on XBox (SNK ports, 3rd Strike, Prince of Persia)

This is what it boils down to:

If you like traditional console games,get a PS2. However,if you prefer PC games,3-D FPS,or online connectivity,grab an X-Box.

Im not normally into first person shooters but saying that I did play Halo and loved it !i have not found anotheer FPS to mach it.

I love quick pick up and play querky games games that are a bit different I think the PS2 would be better for this sort of thing but I have always held of from buying Sony.saying that the reason i didnt buy a Playstation is because i was a bit of a nintendo and sega fan and didint like a big company making it all so popular and microsof t are the same but the xbox is seems very hackable!

I wish i could go back a few years perhapse ill just get a SNES........but NO I want new games! OHH this thread really hasnt helped me make a dissision :crying:

xbox xbox xbox xbox - a ps2's only use is a door stop. Ive had both, now just have the xbox, the PS2 was nothing compared, especially as the xbox had halo and halo 2 coming soon! :D

If you're into fps get the Xbox, for everything else get the PS2.
