Not sure who started that rumor (I think !Arcade!) but of all the neo systems I have seen over the years, NONE have been factory fitted with a socket.
Maybe they [!Arcade!] are basing their opinion on getting an early model neo which someone had put a socket in, so they just assumed they all had them...
If you're afraid of removing the old bios, you could always piggyback a socket to the old bios, then pop the uni-bios chip in.
There are several things I like about the UNI-BIOS over the Debug bios:
1. Works on AES and MVS
2. System Tests
3. Jukebox Player
4. Saves settings to memory cards
5. Developed by a respected member of the neo community.
Put it this way -- I don't offer the standard Debug Bios any longer, unless someone specifically asks for it.

A universe bios and debug bios follow the same install procedure, one isnt easier than the other to install. Saying that there are 2 different instllation methods, you can either piggyback or fit a socket. For a universe bios the socket method is better because you can easily take the chip out once new versions are available.
Basically the very first AES systems released had a socket as far as I have been told, I ave never been able to confirm this myself though.
