Hi there.
I've searched the forum for a specific answer but with little luck.

All i want to know is: Does a debug bios enable us/jap language? Or do i have to get me a universal bios?

Thanks.

The debug will let you choose between, US/JPN, HOME/MVS for most games. Unibios will do it for all games and with more options.

And yet another question...
I've heard that it might be difficult installing a Debug/uni bios in newer machines. Is that a fact or just a easter? Thanks.

I've never heard this before. There are various board revisions, but I'm not aware of any of them being significantly more difficult to work with than the others.

http://unibios.free.fr/requirements.html

It says something like this:

A.E.S system
Installation on the AES will depend on the type of hardware you actually have as some AES systems have a soldered BIOS while others have the BIOS in a socket (I think the oldest models had a socket). If you are lucky you will have socket already on the PCB. If you have a soldered BIOS you should not attempt to install unless you are skilled with a soldering iron.

I might go after the Debug Bios instead. The primary thing for me is to be able to switch between languages.

A universe bios and debug bios follow the same install procedure, one isnt easier than the other to install. Saying that there are 2 different instllation methods, you can either piggyback or fit a socket. For a universe bios the socket method is better because you can easily take the chip out once new versions are available.

Basically the very first AES systems released had a socket as far as I have been told, I ave never been able to confirm this myself though.

Debug can swap regions for you.

the Universe Bios can do that, plus PAGES of more things, including removal of censorship from some games, that the Debug simply can't do.

SSVS fatalities for one thing.
English memory card management screen.
Built in cheats.
Mix and match English text and Red blood/bounce.

I've used both, and Debug now sits in a bin on my workbench. Uni BIOS 2.0 is in my AES.

Not sure who started that rumor (I think !Arcade!) but of all the neo systems I have seen over the years, NONE have been factory fitted with a socket.

Maybe they [!Arcade!] are basing their opinion on getting an early model neo which someone had put a socket in, so they just assumed they all had them...

If you're afraid of removing the old bios, you could always piggyback a socket to the old bios, then pop the uni-bios chip in.

There are several things I like about the UNI-BIOS over the Debug bios:

1. Works on AES and MVS
2. System Tests
3. Jukebox Player
4. Saves settings to memory cards
5. Developed by a respected member of the neo community.

Put it this way -- I don't offer the standard Debug Bios any longer, unless someone specifically asks for it.

Ok, I have updated the requirements page to reflect that.

I definity have a first generation board in my AES and theres no socket bios on it.. Its been soldered.. Now i gota find a way to unsolder the chip or do the piggy back way that some have mentioned..

Can someone post a link with info on how to do the bios piggy back on the original non socketed bios? I only have a debug bios atm.. I wanted to wait till i got the system from a member so i could read the serial numbers before i ordered the universal 2.0 bios.
