I believe this was mentioned in another forum, but I thought it would be a good idea to put it in the Suggestions forum.

Basic argument for an Atomiswave Forum in my opinion is this: Though this sight is about Neo-Geo, much of it is really about SNK. People post threads on metal slug advance and the SVC Chaos on X-box so it makes sense to add a forum for the hardware that SNK is moving on to. I'm never getting rid of my NEO, but right next to it is going to be an Atomiswave and I'd like 1 website to handle both of them.

Still premature to add an Atomiswave forum. Once there are a few SNK titles available on this system we can reconsider.

You make a very good point, Shawn. It makes sense to wait until SNK establishes itself on the Atomiswave platform. For all we know, SNK may not stick with the platform. Hey, stranger things have happened.

This site has quite a lot of forums as it is. I'd be more in favor of incoporating AW discussion into the forums that exist if anything...

The problem is: in what forums do you "incorporate" AW discussion? In my opinion, it suits under General Discussion: "Our universal neo forum made available for related topics". The problem is that it is open to interpretation, and some people consider the AW is not "related" to the Neo, so it should only be discussed in "Unrelated", and leave "general" for strictly "neo-only" matters. Of course we already got 3 entire system forums for each "true" neo geo system. Although I can understand their point of view, what I don't understand is the need to fill with flames each thread like that.

Whatever. Anyway it looks like General Discussion will turn into something like the "d00d, look a the curious ebay/yahoo auction I found!!11!11" forum, just have a look at some of its threads right now (the one about the strange proto board in yahoo Japan is the only interesting one).

However, I agree with Shawn that a full AW forum right now would not be necessary, maybe in the future when there are more SNKP games on it. But in the meanwhile, those games should be discussed in News and General. Technical questions about the AW are welcome in Tech support (as anything related to any arcade board always is). All other AW topics are just being discussed in Unrelated.

Let's see everybody's opinion.

I guess this is a question of how much the crossover in interest from NeoGeo to other platforms is relevant. I mean, there is a whole sea of different platforms that SNK characters and games have made an appearance on, but it would be ridiculous to have a dedicated forum for every one.

Of course, if and when the Atomiswave becomes the new MVS then it should deffinately get it's own forum imo.

Well, it was also suggested to create just a forum for "SNK(P) games for non-Neo Geo platforms", that should cover all ports to "regular" consoles and the AW games, and I find that quite a good idea.

I'd actually say the idea for an Atomiswave forum is worthless.

We don't have a forum for Genesis, Super Nintendo, or Playstation, do we? Well, a lot of titles went to those systems as well. In fact, if any atomiswave discussion needs to be brought up, the general forum or unrelated (if not havng to do with an SNKP title) would most certainly suffice.

But none (or few) of the games for other consoles were made specifically for them, they were just (inferior) ports. And the AW is not a console, it is a arcade board that replaces (for good and for bad) the MVS, although it's not manufactured by SNK alone.

I agree General Discussion would suffice, but there's some people (and they do have a point) that don't want AW talk there.

And I'm probably forgetting some.

Basically, you're wrong. And so's Lithy if he was agreeing with you.

But the Atomiswave IS SNKPs hardware platform now. Whereas for the arcade market SNK was the Neo Geo and for a short time the Hyper 64. Products put out for consoles were not their main focus.

I think its in the best interest to have it. As soon as KOF 2004 hits the interest for this system will explode. It would be best to get early discussion going on here, as this site is about neo geo, and this system succeeds it. I think it'll work rather nice with the other neo related boards. They all keep decent enough activity, one more really wouldnt hurt.

Bah, did you notice that I said "few"? Those you listed are merely testimonial, and basically have never been discussed in these boards, whereas there are quite a lot of threads about the AW and the SNK games for it. According to your logic, we should close all the Neo Geo boards as there are no more games coming for them.
And neither those games nor the systems they were made for were sold in the neostore as far as I remember.

As lithy says SNK and the Neo Geo have always been an arcade thing.

The AW can be considered the MVS-2 in the sense that all major arcade SNK franchises (Metal Slug, KoF, Samurai, plus new ones like NGBC) are coming to it instead of Neo Geo.

still hardly anything on the AW from SNKP.

Basically, you have neogeo games, and then you don't.

I already said I agree with Shawn that right now there's few games, actually only one (Neowave), another previewed one (NGBC) and some other announced. So I think it would be a good idea to wait a bit before implementing the AW forum (on which all AW related talk should be allowed, including non-SNK games), specifically when there are more games from SNKP. Take care that the HNG64 basically has only 4 or 5 SNK games and still has got its own forum (however that's a 100% SNK system with the Neo Geo name in it, so it does deserve that forum and it should stay like that).
However, in the meanwhile there should be some statement from Shawn or mods that specify up to which point which AW topics can be discussed in General or Unrelated.

How about just making the "Hyper 64" forum an "Atomiswave / Hyper 64" forum. Simple change and satisfies the "need" for now. Later on if the AW gets more popular then it can get a dedicated forum.

That's a pretty good idea, it is similar to the NGPC->Handhelds forum. It might help to increase the interest for the HNG64, which is pretty dead, just one of the reasons used for the NGPC change.

So I say we could do it.

Please lock this senseless thread.
Revise the idea at a later time (Next year maybe?)
Thanks.

Can I be a mod for the Atomiswave section? As a matter of fact, I don't really care if we get an AW section nor would I do a good job as a mod. I guess that I just really wanted the custom rank... :crying:
