Well as we all know, Sony has annouced the the PStwo and it's coming out to America late October/early November. Well I have a american one and a Limited Edition Gran Turismo 4 Ceramic White Japanese PS2. I was just wondering if you guys think I should get rid of these before the new ones come out?

Nah, that's a total waste IMO. Unless you're nuts about aesthetics or something, it just doesn't make sense. With the pop-up lid, the new PS2 model will require about the same amount of space as the old one, so buying a new one seems sort of silly IMO.

new doesnt mean better, the new ones could break more than the old POS PS2.

I bought mine on the US release date and have not had a single problem with it . Its yet to be determined what kind of parts they will use on the new ones and what kind of issues it will have (sony products almost always have issues). If it ain't broke don't fix it .

Well I'm debating myself between these few things.

I use the Japanese PS2 to pretty much play only a few games:

Btw, I still have a regular beatmania controller in my closet if someone needs one *cough shapermc cough*

I haven't touched my american PS2 in ages. I'm pretty much just waiting for Gran Turismo 4. Then that brings me to my other point, I barely play games anymore and I'm wondering if I'll even sit down and play Gran Turismo 4 a lot...

Oh yeah, final point. Since the new PS2 is top loading, I figured I can just get a simple boot disc to play import games *confused in all the points I've given myself*

....A geek and his gaming issues, a sad picture isn't it? :help:

Edit: one more point *sigh* Both of my PS2's never scratch games (Version 7 for the American and Version 10 for the Japanese), they keep them minty mint, another reason I worry about the top loading :oh_no:

I'm keeping my launch date PS2 as well.

PStwo's won't work with HDloader (No HD Mount). Which fucking owns since it saves wear & tear on my PS2 games and cuts the load times to almost zero.

The loading time on the PS2 were always a pain in the ass next to the other consoles so unless the PSTwo has a much faster DVD drive I'm not buying.

edit:

The PStwo design is absolutely hideous, not that the PS2 has my vote for the most beautiful console of all time but the PStwo is a crime against nature.

The PS2 being top loading can only mean one thing for me...

SWAP MAGIC!

I can use swap magic to play imports and back ups without even buying a flip top. I hope once it comes out, someone releases boot discs. If that happens I will sell my SCPH 50001 model PS2 right away. My brother already has the same exact model anyway.

edit: I won't get the smaller PS2 right away. If I learned anything from PS2s its to buy them during its second or later run.

Your big PS2 is worth 100 in trade in credit at gamestop.

But it won't be in two days when they realize there's no longer a shortage.

Go for it!

"What's particularly interesting about the new SCPH-70000, however, is that it cannot use the Hard Drive (HDD) needed for games such as Final Fantasy XI, and well, Final Fantasy Xi's expansion packs. It has also been confirmed that some software will not be compatible with the new unit, but what those titles are have not been revealed."

Quotes IGN. Sounds like a stupid buy.

Personally I think it would be pointless to sell one of you PS2s for $100 then turn around and buy it back in a different version(thats less compatible if no hd support) for $150. Your just throwing an extra $50 at the Sony monopoly.

I was hoping for an lcd screen like its predecessor, wish it looked like the Treamcast.

Honestly, any sony product scares me, as of late. I'm on my third PS2, and I went through two PSones. Just stick with what you've got. You don't seem to be hurting for money, so if you really want a new one (for whatever reason), then treat yourself and just get the new one. But keep the one's you have. Yeah, you don't play the US one, but one day you might... just keep and add on.

I have no problem with Sony console.
If your console is made-in-japan then you are fine ;)

I got my PS, PS2 and PSOne on release day (MIJ) and they're running fine :)
