Rent it first if you are a fan of the show, but if not, stay away from it. There are an incredible number of problems with it...almost an unheard of amount considering the level that games nowdays, especially fighting games, are (supposed to be) at. I too, being a huge fan of the show, was really looking forward to it and bought it yesterday; I wish I had my $40 back. Some of the problems include:

- Horrible collision detection
- Very linear, limited combo system
- Fucking slowdown out the ying-yang. A FIGHTING GAME CANNOT HAVE SLOWDOWN!!!!!!!!!!! It's like Bloody Roar 4 fighting with/against a transformed Reiji all the time. The game isn't very fast as it it is, but sometimes when there's mutliple effects onscreen, the game CRAWLS.
- The game dies on itself. The longer you play it, the worse it gets. After about an hour, the announcer no longer calls the round numbers..she just says "Fight!" After about two, the sound effects are only heard about half the time. During all this time, the game gets progressively slower. If you restart it again, however, it goes back to normal.
- Although it has jumping and crouching, there are only two jumping attacks. One is some sort of character specific attack, such as an energy blast, but not every character has some sort of "special" air attack. The other is some type of punch or kick, but it is exactly the same no matter which of the three attack buttons you choose. Ducking is another thing all together. It's kind of like you "switch modes" when you crouch. There's no quick transition between standing to crouching or vice versa...it's usually more detrimental than beneficial to crouch.
- No tick damage. You can block huge energy blasts all day long, finish someone off, and win with a perfect.
- Retarded damage scaling. Two chain combos can and will kill you with no need for any other attacks. Fists are actually better than spirit attacks most times.

Positives:
+ Decent cell shading
+ Decent roster
+ Almost every spirit move included
+ Anime cut scenes used in the story mode are unedited
+ Almost fully-destructable arenas

All in all, if the game just didn't have slowdown and had better hit detection, the somewhat shallow fighting system could be overlooked as it actually has motions for some moves (such as away, towards circle for a charging kick) instead of just holding away or towards and hitting a button a la Budokai 1/2. I was sincerely hoping that this game would be a keeper, but it seems that no one at Atari or Digital Fiction deemed it necessary to spend a few weeks more cleaning up the bugs and nuances that run abound. The game, despite my total trashing of it, is actually (somehow) fun to play sometimes, which I realize is totally dependent on my love for the program, but once all the characters are unlocked, you'll probably not want to bother with it again. I swear...I know it's possible for someone to make a good anime-based fighting game stateside, but for some reason, they just don't. A huge disappointment throughout. 4/10

Thanks for the great review. I feel like I still want to buy it even though the dissapointment will be there.

Wow thinking about it from my amazing CS background I think there is a memory leak in the code. That is why the game would slow down over time. That is disgusting that they would ship a game which such an obvious flaw
