I just need some of the pros to take a look at this cart (kof95 MVS) to verify that it is a BOOT.

CHA board seems to have legit roms except for those 2 with white stickers over them says "snk" on them though
lower board
Heres the top board (with program roms and V)
V roms seem to be legit but have those nasty wires soldered to different points. Those 4 color striped eeprom Program chips dont help the situation.
the nasty board

looks like more of a repair job than a boot, I dont have a kof to compare with it so not really sure.

the 6 EPROMS, that is the 2 with stickers (M/S) + 4 color striped (EP1-EP4) exist in legit carts, so you should have no suspicion on these :emb:

the wires are quite unusual, though :eek_2:
I've read some KOFs were hacked in a similar way so that might be the explaination, but just a guess. Or a funny repair ? :annoyed:

How does the game play ? something worth mentionning ?

Ps : as usual, cover those EEPROM windows ...

whats a standard method of covering those eeprom windows?
black tape?

Thanks for the feedback

As far as gameplay - everything seemed normal, i didnt notice any hacked up moves or anything.........

My KOF96 has the exact same colored P eproms and I always thought IT to be a bootleg.

Black insulation tape is OK, you often see those self adhesive round stickers (they come on a roll for office use) their just the right size.
Black permenent texter is OK, the ink can be removed with isopropyl if the eprom ever needs to be erased.
The eproms inside a cart (especially a black cart) are protected from uv light sources anyway, so this is a bit unnecessary, but why not its piece of mind.
If your removing the boards and photographing them the camera flash worries me.
I find it takes typically 12 mins under very strong uv to fully errase eproms, so a millisecond flash probably will not do any harm, buy why take the risk.

Yep a bunch of carts around 1996 seem to have the 4 eprom fix on the prog board, and they will always have the color stripes.

Personally I use black insulation tape to cover EEPROMs windows

you can add at least one revision of Samurai Shodown 3 (JPN) to the club of "4 colored stripes EP EPROMS" (don't forget about the S1/M1 couple)

Its cool they are originals but I still worry that in the long run EPROMS are less reliable than mask roms. :crying:
BTW question to the pros : are Mask Roms also prone to bit corruption ?
