Could you walk away from Next Gen Consoles for good?

I'm just curious if any in this community might ever be able to walk away from the current systems {i.e. XBOX, GC, PS2} and any future ones, and just stay forever in gaming bliss playing your Neo:Geo systems and everything up to say the DREAMCAST? ---Strangely enough I'm about at that point, I was thoroughly dissapointed in Shellshock Nam '67 and after all the hype and watching the MGS III trailer for the umpteenth thousand time I no longer even care if I play Snake Eater. It's like I buy all these games, {the new stuff} play them for a few days to maybe a week and they sit there. In all their high resolution "Virtual Reality" goodness they sit there.

On the other hand I play my Neo:Geo CMVS, ColecoVision/2600, Mega Drive practically EVERY DAY and always enjoy playing what looks, feels, and plays like "a game" rather than simpling wowing me with the latest bells & whistles. So could any of you simply say "Meh" and walk away from it all and collect/play the oldies but goodies???

Not really. There are tons of games coming out or are out already on the Next Gen systems that are among my favorites.

Is this gen my favorite? No, but it's still been pretty good.

I've been kind of at that point for awhile now, I *rarely* touch my next gen stuff, aside from Third Strike, Gradius V, and CVS2... Even though I have shelves of this next gen crap that I really don't care about...

My neo, is my glorious gaming salvation.

I play x box more than anything . Even when I feel the neo craving I just play it on the xbox since I don't feel like setting up my AES. I'm a lazy rom whore .

It's not you it's gravity, that bastard gravity that makes walking so difficult for a person of you're size.

the reason why I'm still able to tolerate next generation consoles and their gaming libraries is probably cuz the amount of games I actually buy for them is relatively small...the few that I'll fork over cash for are ones that I know are worth it for me...but as ol' Merc and CurtWRX mentioned, the NEO guarantees a good time with just about any title, something not too many current "next gen" consoles can be so confident about...

Probably not. Although I rarely play the "present" consoles.

Dispite the sea of crap that is out there for the newer systems there will still be a few good ones.

Shoot, I pretty much walked away a long time ago. I've only played a select few PS2 titles, and the last one I invested time in, THE SUFFERING, I haven't had the urge to touch in 5 weeks now.

I pretty live my video game experience through the DC and Saturn. I don't really bother with "current gen" systems. For me, Saturn is all I really need. Besides, too many game systems can be bad. Life is beautiful. I think being seriously devoted to one system, is all a gamer should need. Enjoy games, but enjoy the outside world too.

I got a Saturn and 220 games (I'll probably end around 265)... what more could I need?

Man, you old farts. Same thing happens to everyone. People stop dressing with the new trends, stop listening to new music, and stop playing new games. You guys are getting old. I love old stuff, and new stuff's pretty sweet, too. Don't be so old, you old guys you.

I love the Neo, but some of the new fighters out are just incredible. After watching outrun 2 yesterday at walmart, how could I just walk away? Gaming gets better and better, while you're just getting older.

Dreamcast is a next generation system. And why in the hell would I want to stay away from Silent Hill games, MGS games, 3D racing games like Outrun or the upcoming Daytona, Resident Evil games, Zelda games, and too many others to even mention? I'm still allowed to play Neo whenever I want to.

I have to say that I've considered it in the past. Hell, I nearly sold off every game in my collection a couple of years ago to strictly go with the Neo. In reality, there is no way I could give it all up, there are too many good new games coming out. Seeing new technology and new graphics and gameplay styles is part of the fun of being a gamer. 2D purists may scoff at this and call me a graphics whore, but I can remember a time when the Neo was cutting edge with the best possible graphics available..

Ultimately, as long as my favorite developers continue releasing good software, I'll buy it and enjoy it no matter what platform it's on. This is one of the best months of the year for new games, not to mention the next two months will be amazing. Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and Halo 2 all in a three month period? What a great time to be a gamer.

There is no such thing as next gen.

There is gaming NOW and no, it wouldnt be easy or possible for me because there are some very innovative games out there.

Well I'm just about done with it all EXCEPT the older stuff now. I'm selling off my 3rd Playstation 2 and have no intentions of buying another. I realized that I simply just "don't care" how good a game looks or how movie like the games are becoming because I still want to play "a game". Thus I figure I'll spend the next decade {at least} trying to hunt down and collect/play the games I want for the

Neo:Geo
Mega Drive
Famicom
Super Famicom
ColecoVision {w. 2600 player}
PC-Engine Duo
Sega Saturn

...with so much time tracking down the oldies but goodies, {some of which I once owned and will have to buy again} I'll be too busy ON THE HUNT and playing the stuff to worry about what's going on around me. *I guess if I should ever have kids I'll get into the so called Next Gen consoles, but I'm off of it. The gold of the newer stuff has lost it's luster for me, I want something that's simply fun and doesn't have to rely on being "Realistic" for me to enjoy it. I can see where most people would not be able to though.

I don't have an XBOX, PS2 or NGC but I still play on my MD & SFC every day and still buy games for them. What does that say?

You dang freak. You know you want to play MGS3. At least wait until after November to sell your PS2 again, otherwise we're going to have to listen to you debating with yourself to buy another PS2 just for this game or "play it at a droog's house" AGAIN. Good gravy, have a little patience. Play it, then sell it, for crying out loud.

I just don't care about systems as such, it's all about the games. This gen has good and bad things, but it still has some damn good games out there, and more will come, so there I go! :buttrock:

I sold my PS2 a long time ago, never had interest in a GC, but the Xbox - -which I bought not long ago - - is getting some love. With Ninja Gaiden, PD Orta, Outrun 2 and the SNK ports amongst other things, I'm really digging the system.

But for the next gen of consoles...I dunno. Its gonna take a A LOT to get my money.

I'll elaborate later if I feel like it. All I really need console-wise is my MVS and NGPC.
