i am suggesting this...

...requirements for selling:

(1) if neo-geo.com positive selling feedback 30 or less...

(1)(a) all sales for NOOB seller must be secured with only 2% deposit (of total price).

NOOB seller sends item to buyer and provide buyer with tracking numbers.

package has to be insured for any items $100.00 ++ automatic no if and or buts.

buyer recieves package, inspects for authenticity (as best they can) and functionality (if working or not ie., "the superpang thread").

** if buyer satisfactory with item, buyer will release the remainder of the funds (97% of total price).

*** if buyer not satisfied with item, buyer can send back item to seller and demand refund of the 2% deposit. if buyer recieves deposit back, buyer ends transaction, if buyer DOES NOT recieve deposit back, buyer labels seller a SCAMMING THEIVING COCKROACH!!!!

if this demand is not met then mods can close the selling thread NOOBS make each time requirements is not met, and any other threads they make.

if NOOB selling thread was closed before due to lack of compliance to NOOB selling requirements and opened up another selling thread with the same non-compliance, accounts should be banned!!!

I think these are good guidelines for buyers to follow, but ng.com staff and administration can't be expected to enforce these as "rules" because, again, neither vb nor ubb were made with the market bboard concept in mind.

People are stupid . If a noob has a deal that seems too good to be true there will always be someone to buy even if the thread is closed . Then after they are ripped off they post in general bitching about how they got ripped . Everyone knows japhie is a theif yet people buy from him and when they get burned they cry about it .

Feedback. How do you propose to use it/generate it? Basically, it's honor based here since there is no capacity for eBay style feedback forums. Say I buy something from X and it's perfectly fine. But I don't like him and I want to screw him. I give him a poor feedback and there's nothing he can do about it except debate it. The "mark" and stigma is already there.

to lithy and wasabi...

...ok since filtration is the problem, hows this???

have NOOBS go through MODs for approval on selling that way MODs would get chance of filtering NOOB sale threads or probing out scammers-in-the-making. if NOOBs create sale threads before going through MOD filtering process, sale thread gets closed automatically...

charlie - i bet you this, if NOOB has to go through MOD before selling, and MOD apply this rule before getting approved, potential NOOB/SCAMMER gets discouraged more on putting up sale threads.

Thats really unrealistic. There is no way to administer your proposal. Simply put, as with anything else in this world one should proceed with the philosophy "Buyer beware", research the person they are buying from, and take it from there. For example, my Ebay feedback is 188, thus I am pretty likely to follow through on a sale or purchase. Good transactions on the board help too.

Your plan also doesn't allow for the possibility of a buyer ripping off a seller. What if the buyer pays the 3%, then skips paying the rest to the seller even after receiving the product?

Good in theory but impossible and unrealistic to administer. :oh_no:

Just a thought on how to make the scams less. It seems most of us use eBay or have an account with eBay. You can always set up a "Pre-approved Bidder/Buyer List" with a certain auction.

In other words, lets say Mr. X wants to buy a game from me and we settle on a price for $35.99. But I am not well known on the forums so how can he/she trust me?

I can set up a "But It Now" auction for this item at a set price of $35.99. And after he views it and my eBay feedback he/she decides to purchase the item from me.

Now there is always the problem of someone else bidding on the item. However, with this option (Pre-approved Bidder/Buyer List) I can put Mr. X's eBay username on the list and only he/she can purchase my item. This way we have the use of the feedback system and in case of a scam you can always get my contact information and/or money back from PayPal (assuming this is the payment option used).

Then again nothing is safe these days. But at least this gives you a little less stress.

Here is a link to the "Pre-approved Bidder/Buyer List":

http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/biddermanagement.html

And here is the info copy & paste style for those who are lazy like me:

Pre-approved Bidder/Buyer List

"You can create your own pre-approved bidder list for any item. The list will only allow those users you've on your list to bid on, or purchase, your items. Any user who is not in your pre-approved list will be asked to contact you by email before they can place a bid or purchase your item. You can add or delete users up until your listing ends."

Or maybe this could be the dumbest idea anyone on these forums could think up...who knows? :D

There is an inherent risk in all of these transactions we do in boards like these. The BUYER has all the power really. If they do not deem the transaction to be safe, then they should not move forward with it.

I have sold 1 item since I have been active here and it was a smooth transaction (I received great feedback from the buyer). I have purchased from several members here and have been scammed 1 time from a "good" member that happened to be leaving the neo-geo scene. So i was an unlucky bastard that got stuck with one of his boots.

Anyone at anytime can decide to go "bad". There are no guidelines or rules that can ever stop that fact.

I make offeres to noob sellers that involve them sending first. They either accept or do not, I do not feel I have lost any opportunity if the seller refuses. I see it as saving myself from the risk of a scammer.

Buyers have a choice when dealing with someone. Afterall, the buyer has the money.

We have the feedback forum to go by and if someone hasnt the capacity to search, then they have no business doing business here. Like i mentioned before, even that is not fail-safe to decide on a purchase/trade, etc.
