Whoa!!..That's not good..

Sounds like it's retting...
I do not no if this would be caused by low voltage or something not hooked up right..
Could be sparking inside..
Make sure no wires are off/loose......on that power supply.

I'd suggest to get a new power supply and not run the cab..

What kind of cab do you have..?..(Pics)
What do you have in it..?
Does the cab play right while this clicking is going on.?

it's a taito egret, there was no PCB installed when I switched it on... wasn't willing to risk anything in it...

Did you get this Cab from Arcade Infinity........?

.......
I'm stumped..
I've never turned on a cab with no PCB in it..
I still think you have a Power supply problem.

Your sure it's the Power Supply clicking ..?
Not the light bulb starter switch clicking or the monitor trying to turn on..

If you can..unplug the monitor and see what happens..

My suggestion is to test that Power Supply with a voltage meter before putting a PCB in it..

sounds like a short...

Sometimes a PSU will turn on, then auto shut off because of a short, then try to turn back on...... and so on and so fourth...

Once a telephone pole transformer behind my house blew up. It did the same thing as the power turned back on and off -just with more voltage and big balls of green flames shooting into the sky..

You're F'ed. Just buy a new power supply and replace. It isn't hard. I don't have an Egret cabinet, but it shouldn't be that hard to replace the power supply.
