I find myself being drawn more and more into shooters these days. I've always enjoyed them, but it was never one of my favorite genres. But I'm looking to change that.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about them. It seems like most of the good ones you guys mention are on the Saturn or whatever and cost an arm and a leg. So I need some great games that can be had for a reasonable price.

I own Ikaruga and plan to buy R-Type Final along with Gradius V. What else is recomended?

What systems are you sporting??

PS2 Silpheed gets a bit of a luke warm reception, but I like it, especially the fmv's, nice cheap alternative.

I wish for the life of me I could find Gradius III & IV pack, but the pal version is the most expensive ps2 game ive seen over here :emb:

PS2, GC, Xbox, Dreamcast, Genesis, SNES, and GBA.

I realize there is the "All About Shooters" thread, but they seem to be talking a little more in depth than "Which shooters should I get".

The ones kaos mentioned are great, though some of those I would not consider as "must have", like ESPGaluda. That game is good, but gets old fast.

What he said. Raiden II is actually my favorite shooter to this day. The newer shooters have higher res graphics, yada yada yada, but I just find playing a nice game of Raiden II to be more satisfying. The detail and beefiness of the explosions is unsurpassed to this day, IMO.

Don't pass these up.

I'd recommend some of my favorites like Strikers 1945+, Pulstar, and Last Resort, but you didn't mention Neo Geo in that list. :emb:

As much as I think having good games is important. I recommend first getting or making some joysticks. Having a joystick will make you not get tired of certain games. Let's all admit it, playing a shoot em up on a gamepad just isn't right :shame:

I pretty much have all the PS1 and PS2 shooters, and they have all been named already except for a few. Ones that come to mind are Raystorm, Raycrisis, & G Darius.

Wow, nice set up. Is it possible to rotate the monitor for these games on other ports , other than arcade I mean, where they are designed to run on a horizontal monitor/TV
