I like Bonk more than I do Mario and Sonic combined (Monic or Sario if you will).

I liked them, but I couldn't quite get into them at the time. At least the original TG-16 versions as the music really irked me. The only bonk I've played all the way through was Bonk 3 SCD. I did make a valiant effort with Bonk 1 and 2 but the end-level music just gets on my nerves. :(

However, I really liked the GC adaptation of bonk and I'll probably start playing through it again once I've managed to finish my backlog of games. ;P I've also finally played Super Bonk recently (they had it on my flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo). It was pretty good. I'll should probably look into the BC Kid adaptation for the Amiga and see how it fares.

Was there a Zonk game for anything other then the Turbo/PCEngine?

Bonk 1-3 own, and Air Zonk is one of my favorite 16-bit shooters ever, the music alone fucking owns. I wish Hudson would do a collection for the current systems like sega did with Sonic. They should include the Bonk jamma game too.

Can anyone highlight what differences Bonk CD has over the HuCard Bonk 3??

As a character I thought he was really solid, i'm ashamed to say that during 12 years of PC Engine ownership ive never owned a real Bonk game :crying:
Id really like to try CD Denjin: Rockabilly Paradise, i remember Gamefan slating it in the day, recently seen it and thought it looked pretty cool.

I had Bonk 3 on HuCard back in the day, looked amazing on the turbo express, the cd version was Japan only i think. I'm sure it had an AST and a couple more extras or mini games. Wasn't Air Zonk on cd as well?

"Any Bonk (PC Denjin) fan?"
This is just linguistic nit picking but,
PC Denjin = Air Zonk
PC Genjin = Bonk

Either way, all of these games rock. Except the cd version of air zonk (CD Denjin), sucks next to the card version. It has better music obviously but dosent have parallax scrolling and other graphical goodies

I thought Bonk 3 SCD was US only actually. The manual was in english at least. ;)

Differences that I can remember:
a) You had a CD based soundtrack, althought it was synth music. (And the end level music was still Chip if I remember correctly).
b) when playing 2 players (not sure about single player) there were added mini-games. There were these extra doors sprinkled accross various levels. When you went in there would be a 2player minigame. There was Volleyball, "Wrestling" [trying to knock the other one out] and something else I don't remember.
c) Some missing frames in the large bonks.

It was a toss up. The new minigames weren't *THAT* great, the music wasn't *THAT* much better.

It's also known as Super Air Zonk. I don't have it. I'm curious to pick it up as well as I like Air Zonk.

Air Zonk Hucard is a must-have for TG/PC Engine owner.
CD version is a crappy port with lack of parallax scrolling.

Yeah, it's my bad. It should call "PC Genjin"
"Denjin" means "Electronic Man"
"Genjin" means "Original Man"
(word-to-word translation ;))

Umm... Shubibinman 3 isn't an SCD, it's a (2.0) CD. ;) That said, it's quite impressive for a CD2.0 game. ;) Shockman/Shubibinman 2 is pretty good as well.

I was a bit disappointed by Shubibinman 1, but it's still a worthwhile game.

The only Bonk game I've played has been Bonk's Revenge. The nice challenge kept me coming back for more up until I sold my TG-16. :(

I just recently got another TG-16 and now I have to get the Bonk games. ;)

Shubibinman > Shubibinman 3 > City Hunter > ALL other PCE platformers > PC Genjin

The original is my Fave PCE game EVAR.

PC Genjin SUX. It's dull, repetitive & slow. PC Genjin 2 was average, but the first one..... :oh_no:
