What settings are typically used for competitive play

What I am asking is like for CvS2, SF3: TS, KOF02, and various other competitive games, what are the settings usually set at. Not talking difficulty, but damage, speed, round times, etc. I usually play on default speed and damage for SF3 and KOF at home, but on CvS2 I usually crank up the speed, cause I feel the game is slow. If I want to practice for competition, what kind of settings should I be running on?

And I know that for Competive play the Computer Difficulty is not a factor at all, because there are two humans...

but when I practice at home at CVS2 or KOF 2003, I always have the computer difficulty Set at max or Level 8 on the neo, so that way I am well prepared to meet my opponents in the Arcades.

I'm not saying I can kick the computers ass at level 8 or anything, I just feel this helps me practice.

As for competive play I would imagine the settings would be for the most part Default...

Setting the difficulty to the highest level doesn't help at all. No matter what level the game is on, the AI always has some sort of pattern that they use or some pattern you can do that they always fall for. The only way to get real practice for playing in the arcade is by playing human opponenets.

I don't play against the AI anymore in any fighter, only time I will is when I want to unlock something. I usually have the rounds set to 3(to win)and everything else normal.

I've seen tournies that have everything set to normal except the rounds, which are sometimes set to 3(to win) but I see that in 3rd Strike and rarely in any other fighter.

Exactly. I only play against the AI to test how good it is. For example, I can beat KOF98 all straight with just one character, and not using the D button at all. It is easy to understand the AI's reactions after a while.

I agree with this 100% but when I'm home alone and theres no one to play against it's the only option... to play against predictable AI....

Do what I do, stop using certain buttons. It adds a little more challenge.

For example, in KOF, with no D, you cannot perform the CD heavy attack.

Human players are smarter and 1000X cheaper then any comp will be.
Finding ways to return corner pressure is the best thing you can do for your competitive game, KOF wise.
A Garou player will be a pain because the comp rarely just defends, whilst people JD near every damn thing.

I almost never see the comp cross up to some mean tap in 98, but I cx alot and expert comp players seem to fall for this.
Its very easy to tell whos played the comp exclusively.

Chang can be cheap as hell if used right. Hes got great traps and his rapid A/C canceling is so precious to his game.
Hes one of my better characters in 2002 and 98.
There are very few gods in KOF world wide. A god would be someone who uses bc cancel infinites without fail. A god is is someone who can beat human players without a single loss.
I only personally know 3 people like this, and two are from pakistan. I can do some combos that they can, but my probability is split near two fold to theres with certain ones. The may lee corner infinite juggling from 2001 is a good example of a true expert/god.

Definately, the best competition you can get is on the Game Centers, and even better if you are able to visit different ones.

There was this one white guy who came down here and beat every single dude no competition. He used shit you'd see in combo vids. I asked him what the deal was, and he said he went around many places playing.

The thing is that, in certain Game Centers you tend to see the same players all the time, so you tend to have a strategy to win there, and you select characters that work against the most popular characters that your opponents choose.

So, when you go to a different Game Center, you have to re-build the whole strategy, and by visiting several places, you can give better and more effective use to your characters and strategies.

Haha, if you want to be cheap in 98, you just need Ralf and his sC. The most amazing normal ever.

The interesting thing is that Clark has the "same" sC, at least with the same animation, but the hit priority is different.

Shermie's sC is pretty nice as well, but has a different timing, not at fast as Ralf. And her cB is a nice poke.

Also, in 98, Yuri's C hitting in Counter deals insane damage. Probably the highest Counter damage in the whole game.

Her cB is more useful when using Orochi Shermie though, cause of the dm you can follow with. Learned that from this O sherm user. Shes a supreme zoner to.

Yuri is a power house. Especially in 2002, cause shes still a tap whore, and whats worse is that projectile. That shit is so annoying and you can spam the hell out of it.
Clark is most useful for trap low jumps. Especially in wake ups, all the players at high level use this same damn clark style.
On wake up, short jA sC cmd follow.
Clark is bad ass tho.

Mushiki man I misjudged you, you know your shit in gamin, my respect man.

Indeed, her normals are great, and her "kisses" are very usefull, they are like a toned-down "koko desu ka?". Still, I prefer the standard Shermie, I love her grapple moves.

Don't even mention it, her air projectile is insane. You can even fB and then perform that projectile. Most of my opponents hate Yuri 2002 because of how annoyingly I can use her.

Clark is great, he had some insane combos in 2001, and he is still great in 2002. That trap low jump combo is classic, and most aggressive/cornering players tend to fall for his dp+K counter in wake ups.

Haha, thank you. I love competitive play. Too bad that my friends don't like competition or "improving", so Game Centers are my only choice. Still, I love that.

I am more fortunate then before, cause most of my friends are into KOF. Hell, LY and me play alot of 98, I have a tap style, he has one thats based pressure.

Its cool cause we can teach each other shit and whatnot.

Sounds great, I believe you both play online, is that right?

How is the online emulation gameplay? Fluid? Choppy?

Depends on the country you are in.
You can forget long distance between 2 players, it would be unplayable.
