I listen to alot of King Crimson and just recently discovered the sweetness that is Yes. Close to the Edge is pure eargasm. Anyone know of any other worthy bands that rock with mad riffs? :buttrock:

If you like "Close To The Edge" then you should delve into most of the Yes catalogue because they have a very distinctive sound that they keep coming back with. Relayer, Going For The One, Drama and Keystudio are good picks. Earlier Yes is also decent but not quite as proggy. Unfortunately it seems like most people don't have the attention span to enjoy almost any Yes at all or else they seem to hate the group. But for the fans there is quite a lot of good music to be found...

I would also recommend the album "Queen II" by Queen. I think fans of prog rock usually appreciate this album even if they aren't fans of the band in general.

Do you listen to Pink Floyd? "Animals" and "Wish You Were Here" are especially progressive and pretty good...

I don't recall anytime I've listened to King Crimson. They're pretty good?

Argentina 84: I completely forgot that I have "I Robot". I should dig it up.

Dmhawkmoon: I ordered Close to the Edge, Fragile and The Yes Album out of amazon. The first and only Yes album that I own for now is "Time and a Word" so I'm familiar with their less prog style. Close to the Edge actually surprised me because I wasn't expecting and didn't know that they changed.

Sadly I haven't listened much to any Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin even. I've just recently discovered that the 70s were a goldmine. I can't beleive how much popular music has regressed over the years. The shit they play now on the radio is unbeleivable, each song is mostly 2 minutes of disposable garbage. Thank God for the Indie scene.

Lets Gekiga In: I think their 70's era is the strongest so you should start from there, "Lark's Tongues in Aspic" espacially.

Codeman1: They came to Montreal this summer but I didn't know them yet so I missed the concert.

metallizer: Thanks for the link.

Shito: I once knew a guy who was obsessed with them but I was still too young and naive to understand why.

Thanks for the suggestions. :buttrock:

I have legitimate copies of every single one of Floyd's albums. (except "Works")

I have legitimate copies of all of Syd Barrett's albums (The Madcap Laughs, Barrett, and Opel)

I have all of Roger Waters' albums aside from "When The Wind Blows"

I have both of Dave Gilmour's albums.

I have one of Richard Wright's. (Wet Dream)

I have none of Nick Mason's. (sorry Nick)

I am far far too much of a Pink Floyd fan for my own good.

ELP and King Crimson, though already mentioned, own.

edit: all legit. I just got tired of typing that out. I bought all of them when I was in highschool and had no income aside from lunch money. I skipped my lunch every day to save up for these.

I love you Roger, why won't you return my phonecalls? :(

Awesome. I'd spend half of mine at the arcades but that's a different story.

oh christ, you should chill with my old roommate Conrad. He's the biggest floyd/syd fan i know, but unfortunately he kinda ruined it for me. by the end of our time living together i wanted to kick the shit outta him every time he went into his room cuz i knew it would mean hearing "ohhh baby, my hair's on end about youuuuuuuuu" for the forty fucking thousandth time. And i like that song.

though i guess i still dig piper and animals and meddle (especially echoes, cuz one it's a rad song and two my shitty highschool band covered it and i got to sing/scream "and call to you ACROSS THE SKY!!!! it was pretty cool).

err, on-topic, early Genesis is pretty prog. I've only heard a little though so no specifics. Of course Rush, and i don't know if ELO is considered progressive but they certainly do rock.

I looked into early Genesis and what I found was terrible... Anyone know if that's the norm? I mean I can enjoy damn near anything Yes put out, but I heard a few old proggy Genesis songs and I wanted to kill myself...

I never got into Genesis as well, I guess its a band you only like it if you listened to it at the time.

I actually listen much more to prog metal: Angra (early), Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Queensrÿche, Stratovarius...

You guys every try The Strawbs? They're kind of folk/ prog-rock from the late 60's and early 70's.

I've been introduced to them my uncle, who's pretty big into early Genesis and the like, and it's been pretty good stuff.

I'm not into prog-rock per se, with the exception of Floyd, but I can still tell that The Strawbs make quality music.

I gotta bump this thread to say I just listened to Camel's Moonmadness and it has left me speechless. The vocals are incredible and the dreamy feel of the album is priceless. This one really took me on a trip.

Yeah? Ever play Jedi Knight 2 team melee? Look here (top of stats list):

http://www.hosttheweb.com/jk2/players/100sp7oo1l.html

"4tune" from the Jedi clan was actually one of the members of YES....he usually kept himself busy writing soundtracks for Disney films as well as laming the everliving fuck outta people....

I shit you not.

PS: It was 3 years ago and he was 38 at the time so you figure it out...
