Hi.
I recently bought a rgb cable for my Aes. Its not an official product, but a sega cable. Should work fine ive heard. The thing is...it doesn't. The picture is exactly the same as when i use the standard av cable. So do i really need to purchase the more expensive and official cable? Will i be able to tell a difference? Ive heard that Aes machines below serial #80.000 or so, do have a better rgb output. My machine is a #167.xxx

Thanks.

With a 167,XXX serail number then theres no point in putting an RGB lead in the back as it has terrible RGB output. You are better either getting an earlier serial number machine(sub 95,XXX) or getting someone to do the rgb mod for you.
There is another possible reason. Some tv's won't automatically switch to rgb,and if you havent got the rgb on/off button on your remote control you can't do anything about it,unless you get an external rgb box that allows you to turn one scart socket into 3(or more). These usually have an RGB on/off button built into them.

Its easiest to just try and get hold of a lower number AES for a start though.

Hi.
Yes im sure. And just to be 110% sure, i tested the rgb in both my scart sockets. One socket didn't have sound but picture, and the other one, both picture and sound.

The damn thing is that i knew about the prob BEFORE i purchased my machine. And now i just hate myself :( You're talking about making a rgb mod...Is that hard to do or is it best to let a pro do the job? I know a couple of guys that can handle a soldering iron. Since i don't want to sell my machine, that might be my only option. Or to go the entire way.... Make a mega modded machine.

You can only experience true RGB on your AES when it's modded.

And believe me...it's a world of difference.

Before I had my AES modded, I bought a RGB cable, but I couldn't see any difference at all, but with the mod, it's supreme RGB quality :buttrock:

i can't see what a modding could do to rgb? I only thought megamod offered s-video and stereo + some other things?

My mistake, I meant a RGB mod on your AES.

As for the rgb mod: Are there any links describing which components to use and how to install them?

I let someone else do the mod for me (stereo+RGB) you should contact "MKL" here on the boards, he did an awesome job for mine.
