My arcade screen shakes

I've an old 25 inch moniter in my MVS. It's probably over ten years old. It still looks crisp and great, but I have to leave it on because things are blury for the first 30 minutes after I turn it on.

Unfortunalty, it's recently started shaking, like the vertical hold is having problems. It'll move up and down about a quarter inch rapidly. It goes into these shaking sessions not to often (yet), but it's extremely annoying when it does.

Any advice (apart from get a new monitor). Thanks so much for any help.

One of your adustment pots (small pcb inside cab) to adjust the monitor may be bad/cracked dirty..

Most likely the vertical hold pot.

Make sure that the monitor adjustment pot pcb's harness is in well and not loose or coming off.
(the one that's usually under the control panel)

You have to check each pot..
One may be cracked or dirty..Sometimes they get stuck then crack after an attempt to use-turn them is made....So be carefull with that..

Some work was being done on my local power lines and the fluctuations caused my mvs screen to wobble a lot. I left it off for a few days until they where finished because I was afraid it would do some damage.

This made me wonder if it could be a problem with the power supply? Worth checking it to see if it is giving you a nice constant feed. At the very least it will eliminate one more cause.

Chris:

I don't know what to look for. I have the one big monitor pcb, and there's another small pcb (perhaps what your were talking about) with some more knobs. Where am I supposed to look for the cracks? The entire inside is dusty like it's NEVER been cleaned. I'd clean it if you thought it might fix the problem. I guess to clean it I should unfasten the boards, unhook them from the monitor and wipe em off with something?

Flit:

Intersting idea. Perhaps when I'm despirate I'll buy a new power supply. It wouldn't hurt to have a new one anyway.

Robz: Nice Andy avatar. No, I don't think the monitor is Japanese.

I can take a pic of mine if you need it..

It should be located under the control panel...

Now,it's a dedicated cab we are talking about,yes..?

It should have 4-6 knows that adjust the monitor..
Horizontal/vertical etc..

These knobs get dirty ..sometimes they bind up from dirt then crack when they are turned.
Or dirt/dust has settled under them causing interference.

I mainly have seen problems with the small harness that plugs into this pcb..
it either gets loose from being bumped/pulled on or has a ton of dirt or corrosion inside that's causing it to not make good contact.

If you have a Dedicated MVS cab..you need to buy either one of these..

This is what you need provided you have a Dedicated Neo Geo Arcade machine.

Don't "wipe" your boards... try using an air duster. If that isn't sufficient, try using a PCB cleaner.

Okay, I guess I should make a trip to an electronics store. (That's where I get PCB cleaning supplies?)

Chris, are you suggesting I get a new power supply becasue it's simply a good thing to have for my dedicated cab, or because it might fix the problem? Either way I'll probably pick one up now because of the sale, but I'd like to know why I'm buying it.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
