GREEN BAY, Wis. (Sept. 14) - A man threw his fiancee's 8-month-old daughter out of a car as he fled police after being accused of domestic violence, authorities said. The girl, strapped in a carseat, was unhurt but the man later was fatally injured in a crash.

Dana Bettin, 23, died Sunday, three days after the dramatic highway chase that ended when he crashed his fiancee's car into an unoccupied squad car.

At one point, he slowed down, opened the car door and dropped the baby in the car seat onto the highway, sending it tumbling toward the middle of the roadway.

"As the baby was flying toward me I noticed that she was crying very hard and looked scared," Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. David Catalano said Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show, which aired video of the incident.

"Fortunately she was seat-belted into the child seat so that as it slid forward on the highway and then rolled over she escaped without any injuries," he said.

Sheriff's Sgt. Dan Pamenter told The Post-Crescent in Appleton that the man at first tried to put the baby out of the car on the shoulder, but the door car was in his way. He eventually pulled back into traffic and pushed the baby out as he was accelerating.

"His car was jerking back and forth," Pamenter said. "I didn't know what he was doing. He seemed to care for the baby."

"I was pretty certain he wasnt going to stop until he crashed," Pamenter said.

The chase continued at speeds up to 100 mph.

The pursuit ended on U.S. 41 when Bettin had a minor collision with a vehicle and then crashed into an unoccupied squad car. The car he was driving rolled over and he was pinned underneath. He died at a hospital in Green Bay.

Catalano spoke to the baby's mother on Monday and said the girl is doing fine.

"Her mother is very devastated about everything right now," he said. "It was her fiance involved and she's very upset."

I just seen this on the news too. Pretty fucked up.

Its amazing the kid didnt get hurt, and if she was actually still in the car when it crashed things probably would have been alot worse.

Oh man - this is one of those instances where I encourage government-sanctioned beatings.

Glad the kid made it out ok though - that's pretty damned amazing.

ehhhh, he slowed down before he tossed the baby. Babies in this country have it way too easy. Tuck and roll, baby, tuck and roll.

...that's some darkly funny shit you said there Southtown. It's horrible that something like that would happen to a defenseless baby, but the shit reminds me of RAISING ARIZONA with John Goodman leaving Nathan out in the middle of the road. ---suddenly I'm hearing that wailing guy...

 What the!

That's good that the baby girl was unhurt :)

I bet she was really scared too.

Why was the father being chased by the police anyway, who knows.

That's a :shame: for things to happen like that. :(

But the main thing is that she survived the tumbling on the road & it's a good thing
someone picked up the baby girl from the road in time. :D :glee: :)

Like the rest of you, I'm just flat-out amazed at how the baby was relatively unscathed throughout this traumatic ordeal.
Whether divine or coincidental - depending on your beliefs, - it is very fortunate how the child seatbelt remained fastened, and that the seat merely slid around the road as opposed to bouncing on all sides.
As a firm believer in vengeance, I am also very pleased that this man has been destroyed. Hopefully his body is incinerated to further add to the illusion that he did not exist - it's for the better.
I know police see rather unusual occurrences on an all-too-regular basis, but I cannot help but wonder what ran through this Sgt. Dan Pamenter's mind as he witnessed this macabre act unfold.

To boogbutt: The police were pursuing him after he apparently fled the scene of a domestic dispute.

Fuck you.

Anyone who tells baby jokes or has a site related to dead babies is a deranged fuck who needs his ass beat.

Yeah, I'd agree too, except the baby didn't get hurt, and she's a lot better off without that guy helping raise her. I think the guy slowed down and tossed the baby because he planned to die. The kid got scared, but she won't remember. If she'd been hurt, it would've been tragic, but the way it happened it didn't end up much worse than if the baby fell down. Now all they need to do is push the mother (who was crying over the guy) out of a car and take the baby to a good orphanage, where she at least has a chance of getting decent parents. Unfortunately, there are a million worse things that happen to a million kids around the world every day.

This is irony:

A man threw his fiancee's 8-month-old daughter out of a car as he fled police after being accused of domestic violence, authorities said.

Yup, he sure proved his point :spock:

Good deal on the baby making out ok, but just another warped story in our world that had to be told.
