I just bought a used dvd drive for my pc and need a windows dvd player to watch films on it....
I tried to down load one but they all seem to have ad ware software built in...which is a pain...
Does any one have one they could email me or a link to one, a region free one would be great....Thanks...... :) :) :)

ps I am running windows xp and do not have any dvd or codecs on my pc....

Most DVD-ROMs have the firmware to be any region, though you can only usually change it a couple of times between regions. If you have an RPC 2 drive, it will dictate what region you can watch DVDs in.

Here's a site with some RPC1 firmware. You can then use any region software on your drive. This requires a firmware update, obviously, but is kinda required unless you use DVDRegion Free or some other similar software.

Worst case scenario is you can do like gamejunkie does. Rip the DVD (I'm assuming you have the physical copy of the other region disc... though I'm guessing gamejunkie is 'finding' his DVD ISOs) using DVD Decrypter (just search for it on google). Remove the region code and anything else you want. You can then watch it direct from your hard drive.

As far as a free DVD player software, most are pay because you have to pay for the license to decode MPG2.

Here's another Region Free site you may want to try.

I'm sure you can also find cracks and serials for retail player software if you're into that sort of thing.

My drive says I can change regions 2 more times...All my dvd's are official it is just that I buy from all over the world and have region 1,2 and 3 dvd's.....
I did not realiize you had to pay a licence for a decoder....

Yeah, the company who makes the software decoder has to pay the MPEG people for the right to do so (which is why Microsoft over charged for it's DVD player on the X-Box).

You have RPC2 firmware. Check those sites above and see if there is RPC1 firmware available for your model and then update it.

The only software decoder that won't play all region discs that I've found is ATI's. For whatever reason even if you're using RPC1 firmware, it's still looking for the disc's region.

You can download a 3rd party app that will give you region free capability if you don't want to update firmware from DVD Idle. It's $40, but I'm sure you can find it some warez as well.

This page will help make your DVD-ROM region free, That's assuming you don't mind doing leg work. It's the cheaper of the 2 methods, since you don't need to buy the above software.

But you'll still have to pay for decoder software unless you want the ad supported stuff or find the retail software some warez as well.
